Valorant Ranks 2026 — Full Guide to the System from Iron to Radiant

How RR, Peak Rank and seasonal resets actually work, what to verify when buying an account, and why current rank is different from peak. Breakdown of the 9 Valorant divisions, matchmaking, and regional caps.

Valorant ranks grade player skill in the Competitive queue. As of 2026 the system covers 9 divisions (Iron to Radiant) and is measured in Rating Rating (RR) points. Understanding it matters not only for active players but for anyone buying an account: Peak Rank is the single biggest price lever on a listing.

TL;DR

Rank = Division (Iron–Radiant) + Tier (1, 2, 3) + RR (0–100). Win a ranked match → +25 RR; lose → −25 RR, adjusted by personal performance. Peak Rank is the highest rank ever hit. Peak Rank drives the price because current rank can drop, but peak stays on record.

Valorant divisions, end to end

#Division% of playersWhat it means
1Iron~14 %Newcomers straight out of Unrated. 3 tiers.
2Bronze~21 %Comfortable with basic mechanics. 3 tiers.
3Silver~22 %Confident aim, reliable map knowledge. 3 tiers.
4Gold~17 %Mid-level, solid economy play. 3 tiers.
5Platinum~10 %Above average, consistent aim. 3 tiers.
6Diamond~7 %Serious level, real team play. 3 tiers.
7Ascendant~4 %Added in 2022. 3 tiers.
8Immortal~3 %Top players, watch the pro scene. 3 tiers.
9Radiant~0.05 %Regional top 500. No tiers, just RR.

Anything above Diamond 3 counts as "high elite". A listing with Peak Rank Ascendant means a player who consistently operated in the top 5 % of the server.

How RR (Rating Rating) actually works

Every ranked win or loss shifts your RR. The mechanic is simple, with nuances:

  • Win: +15 to +30 RR. Scaled by expected outcome (if your team was favoured and wins, gain is smaller).
  • Loss: −15 to −30 RR. Same math in reverse.
  • KDA bonus: through Diamond, personal performance adds ±2–5 RR. In Immortal and above, only pure match result counts.
  • Decay: Diamond+ loses RR for inactivity — 1 RR/day after 14 days without ranked.

Tier promotion: hit 100 RR → next tier, reset to 0 at the start. Demotion only happens at 0 RR with a negative match result.

Smurf protection

Since 2023 Riot has been actively fighting smurfs (high-peak players spinning up new accounts for easy matches). The algorithm applies harsher penalties for losses in low ranks if hidden MMR is high. It's not a problem on a bought account per se, but if you start dominating way above your natural level, the matchmaker promotes you fast to the "correct" division.

Peak Rank: why it dominates pricing

Peak Rank is the highest rank the account ever achieved. Episodes come and go, but peak is preserved in account history and shown in the profile.

When you buy, the price is formed around peak:

  • Iron–Silver — barely moves price. "Fresh player" level.
  • Gold — +10–20 % over base. Shows the account reached respectable play.
  • Platinum — +30–50 %.
  • Diamond — +60–100 %.
  • Ascendant — +100–150 %. Only ~4 % of players reach it.
  • Immortal — +200–400 %. Serious game history.
  • Radiant — outlier. $500+ just for the history entry.

Current rank can sit lower (after decay or a losing streak). Peak stays. That's the guarantee that the account operated at that level at least once.

Regional restrictions — what to pay attention to

Valorant runs in 7 regions: NA (North America), EU (Europe), BR (Brazil), LATAM, KR (Korea), AP (Asia-Pacific), ME (Middle East).

Ranks are not cross-comparable: Diamond in EU is not the same as Diamond in KR (Korean matchmaking is harsher, the same rank pits you against stronger opponents). Peak Rank is tied to the region of origin. Buy a KR account with Immortal peak and try to play it from Europe — ping of 150–200 ms makes it unplayable.

How to verify region: listing attribute. In-game the region is locked at registration and can't be changed (Riot removed the region-change tool in 2021).

Buying tip

Pick a region close to your physical location. From Europe/CIS → EU or ME. From North America → NA. A regional Ascendant peak gives you comfortable play; a KR Ascendant peak from Europe is suffering.

Seasons and rank reset — what changes each Act

Valorant splits the year into episodes, each episode into 3 acts. An act runs about 2 months. A soft reset happens at the start of each act:

  • Your rank drops 1–2 tiers (floor is Iron 1).
  • Peak Rank is preserved.
  • You replay 5 placement matches to lock a new starting rank.
  • Last-act rewards (cards, skins) land in the loadout at act start.

This matters: a bought account with Peak Diamond may start in Platinum 3 after reset. That's normal. To claw peak back you'll need 20–30 matches.

What else to verify on a Valorant account beyond rank

Agents

As of 2026 there are 25 agents. Each one is unlocked either via 10 contract missions (10+ hours) or 1,000 VP (~$10). An account with all agents unlocked saves $150–250 on onboarding alone.

Listing field: ownedAgentsCount / totalAgents. If 25/25 — full roster.

Weapon skins

Bundles in Valorant run $30–110 for 5 items. A full Reaver, Oni, Prime, Glitchpop collection on an account is $500+ bundled free.

Rare skins:

  • Champions 2021/2022/2023 — only handed out during the esports finals. Never returning.
  • Elderflame — the first ultra-premium bundle with dragons.
  • Act 1 Episode 1 beta skins — for players active in the closed beta of 2020.

Any one of those materially bumps the account's value.

Player Cards and Titles

Player Card (profile background) and Title (text under the nickname) are frequently tied to specific events. "Beta Tester" or "Radiant 2021" cannot be obtained any other way. Watch for them — silent markers of an old account.

Account level

Every played match grants XP. Level 50+ signals the account isn't "created yesterday". Important for smurf protection — low-level accounts with high hidden MMR get flagged by the algorithm.

How to avoid losing a bought Valorant account

Riot plays strict. They don't directly ban for "account transfer", but they actively fight smurfs, cheats, and toxicity. To keep a bought account alive:

  1. Change password and linked email immediately. Riot ID → Security Settings. First 5 minutes.
  2. Enable 2FA. Via Riot Mobile or an authenticator.
  3. No ranked for 48 hours. Run a few Unrated matches so the algorithm gets used to the new device/IP.
  4. Never touch ACE-bypass / cheat engines. Vanguard (Riot's anti-cheat) catches them instantly. Permanent ban, including HWID.
  5. Keep chat clean. Bought accounts sit on a "fragile reputation" — a single racism report can get you locked.
  6. Don't force-decay. The algorithm sees suspiciously fast rank drops.

Valorant account buyer's checklist

1
Peak Rank stated explicitly. Not "high peak" — a concrete division and tier. For example, "Ascendant 2".
2
Region matches yours. EU for Europe/CIS, NA for North America.
3
FA — email changeable. NFA is especially risky in Valorant: Riot can restore the account via the old email in minutes.
4
Agent list shown. All 25 → premium. 18/25 → mid. < 15 → you save money but grind lies ahead.
5
Weapon skins listed by name. Reaver / Oni / Prime / Elderflame are meaningful markers.
6
Ban history = None. Non-negotiable.

Valorant ranks FAQ

How many matches to get a first rank?

Placement — 5 ranked matches. Each match shows a provisional estimate; the final rank is locked after the 5th.

Can VP (Valorant Points) be bought separately?

Yes, but it's more expensive than buying an account with VP already on it. Premium Valorant skins are pricey, and accounts with stockpiled VP sell at a 20–30 % discount relative to the retail rate.

What if the rank drops after the first matches on a bought account?

Normal. The first 5 matches after an IP/device swap are treated carefully by the matchmaker. After 10–20 games rank stabilises. Peak Rank stays on record throughout.

What is a "smurf" and why buy one?

Smurf = an account with low current rank but a highly skilled owner. Bought for easy Bronze/Silver matches while the main account sits in Immortal. It's a grey practice; Riot fights it. If you plan to smurf, pick a listing with low hidden MMR (per the checker output).

Where to look on day one after purchase?

1) Login/password validity. 2) Email-change capability. 3) Peak Rank in the profile (Career → Competitive → tap current act → switch to All Acts). 4) Agent list. 5) Skin inventory.
